Confirmed: United's team to play Palace

Monday 06 May 2024 19:00

Mason Mount will make his first start of the calendar year, as one of two Manchester United players to come into the XI for Monday night's game away to Crystal Palace.

The midfielder has made six appearances as a substitute since returning from a long-term spell on the sidelines in March, and is included in Erik ten Hag's XI tonight for the first time since 1 November.

Mount replaces captain Bruno Fernandes, who misses the 20:00 BST kick-off at Selhurst Park completely having been a doubt, while Jonny Evans is deemed fit enough to replace the injured Harry Maguire at centre-back.

The wait is almost over! Here's everything you need to know about our Monday-night match in London.

Andre Onana starts in goal, behind a defence which will be flanked by full-backs Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Evans, back from a muscle issue that he sustained during last month's trip to Chelsea, will partner Casemiro in the centre, with the Brazilian set to play deeper than his customary midfield role once again.

In the middle of the park, Mount looks to be joined by Christian Eriksen and Kobbie Mainoo, while Antony, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho make up the front three. Marcus Rashford, who has missed our last two matches through injury, is not involved. The same can be said for Scott McTominay, who was forced off in the draw with Burnley last time out.

There is a youthful look to Ten Hag's bench, which features Academy Reds Harry Amass, Louis Jackson, Habeeb Ogunneye, Toby Collyer and recent first-team debutant Ethan Wheatley.

Speaking to MUTV's Ben Ibson upon arrival at Selhurst Park, Ten Hag discussed the inclusions of Mount and Evans.

"He [Mount] is for a couple of weeks now back in the squad. He had some sub [appearances] coming in and some good weeks of training. So I think he's ready to play and he's desperate to play. You can see it.

"We are short in centre-halves so we are happy he's [Evans] available. But it was not the plan to start. But now we have to start. And you mentioned his experience and he will deal with it. He can help also the young players around him and I'm sure he will bring his level."
