Confirmed: Ten Hag's team for the semi-final

Sunday 21 April 2024 14:30

Erik ten Hag has named his Manchester United team to take on Coventry City in our Emirates FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium.

There is just one change from the starting XI that was named for last weekend's 2-2 draw at Bournemouth, with Scott McTominay coming in for young Willy Kambwala.

According to Ten Hag, McTominay will slot into United's midfield, with Casemiro set to drop deeper from his more conventional role in the middle of the park, to replace the absent Kambwala at centre-back.

Ten Hag: Today we need a big heart

Erik ten Hag says the Reds need to be determined and resilient to overcome Coventry and reach the FA Cup final...

Speaking to ITV Football about the availability problems United are dealing with at the heart of defence, Ten Hag said: “We have to solve it and we will do [that]. But, of course, we have a lot of injuries, especially in the back four.

“Today we will sort it out with Casemiro [at centre-back].

“We know [about their threat up front]. But we have run out of options, we have to solve the best out of it, and we have two very experienced players [at centre-back].”

Andre Onana starts in goal, with Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka expected to play as full-backs in a defence that includes Harry Maguire, who seems to have overcome the injury issue that he had at Bournemouth.

Casemiro will partner Maguire at the back while, in the midfield, Kobbie Mainoo is set for his first Wembley appearance in club colours, just under a month after debuting for England at the national stadium. He will be joined in the engine room by McTominay and captain Bruno Fernandes.

From right to left, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford make up United's front three this afternoon.

Among the substitutes are four Academy graduates that could make their first-team debuts if called upon at Wembley, with Harry Amass, Louis Jackson, Habeeb Ogunneye and Ethan Wheatley all options in another youthful-looking support cast.
