Kirsty Hanson with her Player of the Month trophy.

Hanson and Turner win monthly awards

Manchester United Women’s duo Amy Turner and Kirsty Hanson have both been recognised for their outstanding displays in October, by scooping separate Player of the Month awards.

Turner was named PFA Player of the Month for her performances in October, two days after Hanson was announced as the Barclays FA WSL Player of the Month.

Hanson pipped Kerys Harrop (Birmingham), Chloe Kelly (Everton), and Arsenal duo Vivianne Miedema and Danielle van de Donk to the latter prize, which is voted for by fans.
Amy Turner was voted as the October PFA Player of the Month.
The 21-year-old winger scored in both of our WSL wins in October. Her first-half effort opened the scoring in the 3-0 win over Spurs while she also netted a superb volley against Reading, which was nominated for United’s Goal of the Month in October.

“We’ve been working on it in training and I couldn’t actually finish them in training,” admitted Hanson, when speaking to club media ahead of Sunday's WSL away clash with Chelsea.

“So to actually finish it in the match was great, especially working with Leah [Galton] because we always look for each other at the back post. It was good for it to pay off after we’d been working on it in training.

“As it came across I was debating whether to take a touch or not, but I just hit it first time and thankfully it went into the net. It’s probably up there with one the best goals I’ve ever scored. I don’t think I’ve ever scored a volley before.”
When asked about receiving her Player of the Month award, Hanson - who recently earned her first call up to the Scotland senior squad - added: “I was very surprised because there are so many good players in that league.

“Even the players I was up against on the shortlist were world class. To win it was just amazing.”

As for our other Player of the Month, Turner played a vital role in the Reds keeping three clean sheets in October  – against Tottenham and Reading in the WSL – and Manchester City in the FA Women's Continental League Cup.

Relive all the best bits as Casey Stoney’s side put the Toffees to the sword in Southport.

Our versatile no.4 finished top of the poll with 29 per cent of the fans’ vote, ahead of team-mate Mary Earps, Kelly, Kit Graham (Tottenham Hotspur), Fara Williams and Jade Moore (both Reading).

Casey Stoney was also on the shortlist for the Barclays FA WSL Manager of the Month award, alongside Arsenal’s Joe Montemurro and Chelsea’s Emma Hayes, but it was Hayes who took the honour after the Blues claimed maximum league points from their three matches.

Sunday's away game against Chelsea at Kingsmeadow, which kicks off at 14:00 GMT, will be shown in full on MUTV from 17:00 GMT.
